Sanford Bell, M.B.A.

Sanford Bell’s background spans more than 20 years of product and project management experience in design and engineering, including all aspects of new product development and life-cycle management, as well as development and deployment of internet-based cable interactive television services. Mr. Bell also offers expertise in business model development, leadership and team building, operations, management, and customer and vendor relationships. He previously worked for Charter Communications as Advanced Services Product Manager and Hussmann Corporation as Senior Designer, New Product Engineering in St. Louis, Missouri. Mr. Bell earned a B.S. degree in marketing from Maryville University in St. Louis and an M.B.A. from Southern Illinois University, augmented by additional studies in project management at Washington University in St. Louis and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt at Villanova University. Mr. Bell is also a charter member of InnovateVMS, the Venture Mentoring Service of Innovate St. Louis.

Edward J. Bernica, M.B.A.

Edward J. Bernica is a financial and operations management executive with expertise in capital markets, process management, strategic planning, operations, and mergers and acquisitions. His achievements include raising more than $4 billion in the long-term capital market, and turning around and re-financing a struggling $50 million company. An entrepreneur himself, Mr. Bernica brings to the UEP special knowledge of financial and operations services within the energy, utilities and tech sectors. He previously held executive positions with ACT Teleconferencing in Denver, Energy West in Great Falls, and U.S. West International in Englewood, Colorado. Mr. Bernica holds an M.B.A. from Creighton University and a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Kansas.

John Laurie, Ph.D.

John Laurie, Ph.D., is a UEP senior coach with expertise in business process management, business planning and trend analysis. He specializes in technology related firms, particularly those in the bio-tech, WiFi and digital modeling sectors. An entrepreneur for over a decade, he has also worked as a researcher for the University of New Orleans Center for Economic Development and The Real Estate Market Data Center in New Orleans. Dr. Laurie graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and history from Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. He also holds a master’s in urban studies-environmental management and a doctorate in economic development, both from the University of New Orleans.

Gary J. Anderson III

Financing specialist Gary J. Anderson III is an experienced business owner and manager, whose knowledge of traditional and non-traditional lenders, as well as SBA, USDA and tax-free bond lending programs, has allowed him to assist hundreds of firms in acquiring the financing needed to pursue their business plans. Mr. Anderson is a finance graduate of Louisiana State University, specializing in risk assessment and insurance, and a chartered life underwriter (CLU). As an entrepreneur, he has served as chief financial officer and partner for a limited liability corporation in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Previously he was owner and chief consultant for a Baton Rouge firm he founded to assist small businesses with structuring and funding their debt. Mr. Anderson has also held sales and management positions with AT&T Capital, Mutual of New York, Dryades Savings Bank, FSB and BIZCapital Bidco.
